Holi is the festival of colors. It’s time for celebration and lots of fun but we all know colors can cause havoc on your skin due to harsh colors. Even if you use organic colors you still need to protect your skin so that it does not get damaged because of the sun and also to make sure that the colors come off easily. It’s very important to take care before and after playing Holi to avoid skin problems such as skin rashes, pigmentation, etc. Here are a few Holi skincare tips that will take care of your skin and you can enjoy the festival without any worries.

Pre- Holi Skincare Tips so that you can enjoy Holi while minimizing the damage:

  • Wear a full sleeve, covering clothes. The more you are covered the fewer are chances of colors damaging your skin. Try wearing clothes that cover the whole of your body to minimize the extent of direct exposure to colors. Wearing dark colors will ensure that the colors don’t get on your skin so easily.
  • Before heading out to play it’s very important to apply oil and rich moisturizer to your skin. Apply oil on the face, neck, ears, hands, and legs. The color can be removed from the skin easily by doing this.
  • Before stepping out, slather your body with a good amount of sunscreen SPF 50 on your face and body. Preferably one that is waterproof or water-resistant. 
  • Do not keep your hair open. Always tie it up less your hair is exposed to gulal, You have fewer hair stains to worry about. The best way is to use a scarf or a bandana that looks stylish and will also protect your hair. Applying coconut oil or olive oil will provide your hair with nutrition and prevent hair from damage due to colors.                                                                                                                                                                                       
  • Do not neglect your nails, Save your nails from damage, keep them short and apply dark color nail paint before going out to play Holi.
  • Stay hydrated dehydrated skin can become dry and get sunburnt easily. Keep drinking water, glucose, juice, etc. throughout the day. 

Post Holi Skincare Tips 

  • Holi colors are loaded with chemicals that are too harsh for the skin. To remove the colors don’t rub your skin too vigorously that can cause skin rashes. To remove any color, wash your face with cold water. A foaming face wash can be ideal to use. Using cleansing milk the colors come off easily. If still, it doesn’t come off, dip the cotton ball in coconut oil and apply to your skin, keep it for a few minutes and then again wash. Once colors come off apply a good moisturizer because your skin may feel dry.
  • Since your skin has been exposed to chemicals, natural ingredients can help to soothe your skin. You can make a DIY face pack with the help of kitchen ingredients. If you are too lazy to make a face pack for yourself don’t worry we got your back.


Turmeric contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. These may provide glow and luster to the skin. It eliminates the harmful free radicals that are damaging the healthy/glowing skin.

You Will Need:

  • 1 to 2 teaspoon turmeric power.
  • 4 Spoon gram flour
  • Water/milk

What you have to do (Recipes)

  • Mix the gram flour with turmeric powder
  • Add sufficient milk or water to this to form a paste
  • After, apply this paste on your face & neck
  • Leave it for 15-20 mins.
  • Rinse with plain water

Coconut Oil:

This treatment is the best for dry, dull & nourished skin. Coconut oil protects your skin from UV radiation and enhances skin barrier function. All this factor makes your skin healthy & glowing.

You Will Need:

  • Virgin coconut oil

What you have to do (Recipes)

  • Warm up the oil slightly and apply it on your face and neck.
  • Massage Face skin gently
  • Leave the oil on the whole night
  • You can add some sugar in the oil and use it as a scrub to exfoliate your skin once a week.

Use Coconut oil every night before going to sleep.

Aloe-Vera have anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatory, nourishing & healing properties that rejuvenate the skin to give it a natural glow. It is best for acne and dry skin.

You Will Need:

  • 2-3 tablespoon Aloe-Vera gel.
  • Half teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 Teaspoon Honey
  • 1 – 2 teaspoon Milk

What you have to do (Recipes)

  • Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
  • Leave it for about 20-30 Mins.
  • Rinse with water.

  • After playing Holi, wash off your hair with plain water so that excess color comes off. Wash immediately with shampoo and conditioner. Also, you can make a hair mask. A few ingredients that you can add to your hair mask are lemon, yogurt, eggs, and amla.
